Pathfinders and LibGuides are comprehensive research tools used to find information on specific topics. Using one is a great way to begin exploring an area of research - the citations have already been found, saving the user time and energy (aka The Information Professional's Creed).
Pathfinders
Affordable Care Act Pathfinder
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) was passed in 2010 and its provisions have already begun to take effect. This pathfinder provides resources for the general public to find detailed information regarding the act in order to become better informed consumers. It covers taxation, employment, health care reform, and legal resources regarding the Affordable Care Act from government and non-profit agencies no earlier than 2010.
Calligraphy Pathfinder
Calligraphy is the art of hand lettering by brush or pen, usually in a distinctive script, and is practiced by numerous cultures. This Pathfinder directs users to introductory resources that cover pen lettering of various alphabets as well as Japanese and Chinese methods of brush lettering. Illumination and flourishing, though subsets of calligraphy, are not included as topics.

LibGuides
Indian Ocean World, 1300-1800During my internship at Hartwick College's Stevens-German Library, I designed a LibGuide for Dr. Cherilyn Lacy's first-year seminar, Indian Ocean World, 1300-1800. It is hosted on Hartwick College's LibGuides page.
This LibGuide is directed towards freshmen in that class as well an anyone else interested in the topic. It provides links to journal articles, books, and web resources on each topic as well as subject headings, keywords, tips for Boolean and subject searching, and a video on using the library's Discovery Service. |
